THE ARCHIPELAGO OF WONDERS
Homage to Paolo Budinich 100 years after his birth
Veli Losinj, 28 August 1916 - Trieste, 14 November 2013
An exhibition and a series of events to celebrate 100 years after his birth. Budinich was a man of science and culture who shaped Trieste into what it is today, a city of science renowned worldwide. His work took place in Trieste and began after the Second World War, when Trieste found itself a small town on the outskirts of a country needing reconstruction. It had no particular vocation. Budinich chose science: international and built on solidarity, science is able to break down and overcome barriers. Principles that are all the more necessary today.
Together with a handful of visionaries, Budinich founded a series of international scientific centres, among them SISSA, and brought the cutting edge of science dissemination to Trieste, to share science with everyone, as it unfolds.
He did all this with selfless interest, with an eye towards Europe and the world, towards a broad, open horizon.
