The event will host interactive experiments, performances, short meetings on various scientific topics, educational and creative workshops, interventions of communicators and scientists. The format of the Science Picnic was awarded by the European Commission as one of the 10 best European projects of the last decade in the field "Science and Society". The first of these events was held in Poland in 1997 and since then many more are organized every year in different countries of Europe. This 2016 edition of Trieste is the first "Science Picnic" to carry this name in Italy. This initiative is organized by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the Municipality of Trieste, with the contribution of Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Province of Trieste and the Trenitalia FVG S.p.A. and in collaboration with other partners and institutions dedicated to science and its popularization.
